Football and fashion aren't two things we usually relate to one another, but, now that the 2017 Super Bowl is just a few days away, it's a fantastic time to scope out some trends. It's always interesting to see what players and their families are wearing, so let's take a look at this years teams. This Sunday's Super Bowl will be an epic battle between the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons. What do both of these teams have in common, aside from talent? Both have some very fashion-forward players.
Here's our fashion MVP list for the 2017 Super Bowl:
Matt RyanAs the quarterback for the Falcons, Matt Ryan has a lot of responsibility on his plate. Because of his reputation as a star player throughout his long career, which started with college football in 2005, Ryan has to balance a hectic practice schedule. One thing that doesn't take a hit, though, is his ability to pick out a well-fitted suit for special occasions. Matt Ryan made our MVP fashion list for this exact reason. There are a lot of ways that a suit fitting can go awry – from sleeves that are a hair too long, to the suit being too long. We can see from this photo, taken during a Children's Healthcare of Atlanta benefit, that Ryan professionally avoids these issues.

Rob GronkowskiA self-proclaimed party boy, Rob "Gronk" Gronkowski shows off his fun personality through this lovely gray and white pinstripe suit. Gronk is arguably the best tight end ever and is known for his touchdown celebrations, but let's take a look at what his fashion choices are saying. In this photo, he's mastered the difficult art of combining formal with casual through the addition of his team hat. Of course, the occasion definitely accommodated some team spirit but we have to give him points for toying with a pinstripe suit and contrasting pattern tie.

Julio JonesAs the wide receiver for the Falcons, Julio Jones has a reputation for acrobatic touchdowns and unstoppable speed. But off the field at team events, Jones isn't afraid to ditch the traditional black suit for a mismatched three-piece suit. It's a bold move that paid off in the end. The fitted brown jacket is complemented by the royal blue vest and pants he paired used to ground his outfit.
Jamie CollinsLinebacker for the Patriots, Jamie Collins' job description focuses him being a key leader of the team's defense. Off the field, being on a team like the Pats has some exciting perks– like meeting President Obama. We've chosen this picture to showcase this historical moment and to take a closer look at the maroon and gray suit he's wearing. Jamie Collins typically errs towards more casual and colorful looks when he's not dressing formally, but this look still ties in closely to his style. Leaving the jacket to make a statement and forgoing the tie, Collins keeps things classic and cool.

Grady JarrettIt's fair to say that Grady Jarrett is impressively dedicated to spending his time in the trenches shutting down the offense. Since he's the defensive tackle for the Falcons, he spends time taking down opponents without hesitation– and we'll probably see some great action at the 2017 Super Bowl. But when he's not playing, Jarrett seems to love classic two piece suits in beautiful colors, like this maroon ensemble. Complete with a pink pocket square and matching tie, it's fair to say that Jarrett likes to make sure he looks good.

Tom BradyTom Brady is one player that doesn't typically need an introduction. He's the quarterback for the New England Patriots and he has an incredible career that started professionally in 2000. If we're talking about football and fashion, it would be a crime to overlook Tom Brady and his famous wife, supermodel Giselle Bündchen especially since he'll be playing in the 2017 Super Bowl. They reportedly met on a blind-date set up by a friend before becoming the very fashionable power couple they are today. Sporting an off-black two piece suit with peaked lapels, Tom Brady looks classic and dashing while his wife, Giselle, stuns in her floral lace dress.
Covering the topic of fashion statements we may see coming from the football world, one player stands out above all the rest: Cam Newton. My date! #SuperBowlRingCeremony ❤️ Meu encontro da noite! A photo posted by Gisele Bündchen (@gisele) on
Our MVP: Cam NewtonNow, he may not be participating in the 2017 Super Bowl, but Cam Newton deserves some recognition. When it comes to fashion, Cam Newton absolutely fits the bill for being a stylish MVP. Even when he's sporting more casual looks, it's hard to dismiss the fact that there's a lot going in– in a good way. But formal-wear is where he really excels. Brilliantly fitted suits, often with damask patterning, and interesting shoe choices propel him to the top ranks. These suits, reminiscent of the Pitti Peacock trend in Europe, are sharp and aspirational. For this look, we can't help but be awed by this level of stylish lounge-wear.
We'll have to wait until at least this Saturday, though, to see who does fashion right and who does things their own way at the NFL Honors and at the 2017 Super Bowl. * Feature image courtesy of the Wikimedia Commons
