Now, that's a wrap! Fashion Week---from London to Paris, Milan and Tokyo---closed with a bang this year. From Givenchy's modern take of the classic black and white trend to Balmain's edgy fringe and ruffles, the most anticipated fashion week events delivered, putting us fashion-lovers in couture nirvana. So how could we possibly be talking about Spring/Summer 2018 before winter could even kick off? Two words: Trend forecast. Because true-blue fashion-lovers always think a season ahead, here's a quick look at some of the key trends showcased at this year's Fashion Week events outside of New York.
In real over-the-top couture fashion, models marched on the runway with vinyl dresses designed with billowy sleeves and tops adorned with oversized ostrich feathers. The end-result? A collection that is provocative, fashion-driven and never short of drama.
Fringe and ruffles, on the other hand, were the other big story on the Fashion Week runway. Balmain strips fringe of its bohemian vibe and transformed it into a sleek detail for the modern-day, couture-obsessed woman by mixing fringe with sequins, leather and ruffles.
A real scene-stealer on the runway was Balmain's multi-colored dress with acres of crystal and sequin embellishment, clearly a display of the fashion brand's intricate beading workmanship which has become one of the pillars of the fashion powerhouse.
Granted that the black-and-white combo is as enduring as a summer memory, this season-transcending trend was evident in Givenchy and Louis Vuitton's collections. It's hard not to fall in love with this black-and-white trend, especially if your style aesthetics lean toward edgy minimalism. On the Givenchy Summer/Spring 2018 runway, the fashion house showcased a simple white dress made interesting with black structured sleeves. Who else agrees? Apparently, Julianne Moore does. The actress was spotted wearing this dress at the premiere of her latest movie, Suburbicon.
Louis Vuitton, which combined Victorian inspirations with a futuristic-themed design during the recent Fashion Week events, also hit the mark with this button-up white satin dress paired with striped sleeves, which kept casual modernity on focus since the dress is unexpectedly worn with sneakers.
In fact, on the runway at the latest Fashion Week events, the fashion powerhouse gives plaids and checks a nod with a collection that includes a wool silk cavalry twill riding coat accented with checkered inserts and a plaid dress accessorized with waxed leather.
There's a touch of royalty featured on the runway at the recent Fashion Week events, and leave it to Altuzarra and Louis Vuitton to bring on the royal glitz. It's clear that Altuzarra’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection was designed for the woman unafraid to stand out, particularly its all gold and shimmer dress with a cut-out top and high slit. Imagine gliding in this gold dress at a black-tie event----all eyes will be on you.
Not to be outdone, Louis Vuitton Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquiere thought there's only one proper way to finish off Louis Vuitton's Spring/Summer 2018 runway show at Paris Fashion Week---and that involves Victorian-inspired brocade and embroidery on jackets that bring to mind British Empire royalty.
To offset the busy lines, Hermes kept the silhouettes classic and simple, allowing the print to take center stage and flattering a woman's shape in the process. Aside from stripes and tartan, Hermes also featured colors and lines in interesting patchwork, mixing the pattern with studded belts.
The Fashion Week runways were in full bloom with floral appliques and embroidery, with designers like Rodarte bringing out flowing dresses in gorgeous garden-inspired prints and floral embroidery.
Over at Elie Saab's couture world, an explosion of colors were seen on the runway, from Amazon green, pastel pink to sunny yellow. From the looks of it, spring/summer 2018 is going to be extra stylish and bright.
