From Neverfull to Artsy, Louis Vuitton tote bags have huge followings. Whether you're thinking of starting a new collection or adding to your existing one, read this post first. We have the inside scoop on what makes the four most popular LV tote bag styles so versatile. And once you've purchased, be sure to check out our post on how to safely clean LV bags to keep your investment in tip-top shape.

The Neverfull

First released in 2007, the Louis Vuitton Neverfull is one of the brand's all-time best sellers. It's currently available in Monogram (seen below), Damier Ebene & Damier Azur canvases, and Epi leather. Sizes available include PM (Small), MM (Medium), and GM (Large).

Here's what you need to know about the LV Neverfull:

  • It has an open top with a lobster claw clasp, so its convenient for quickly throwing things in. But if you're concerned about not having a zipper, you might want to check out the Totally.
  • Because of its catch-all design, the Neverfull is a popular choice for diaper bags, airplane carry-ons, and work totes.
  • It can be cinched at the sides to change its shape. Some people prefer to cinch when wearing their bags with dressier evening wear.
  • Neverfull bags have relatively soft bottoms, and some people purchase after-market bag shapers to ensure that they remain flat when worn.
  • Since 2012, new Neverfulls have been sold with detachable pochettes. The extra zippered storage was a welcome addition, since the bag has an open top.
  • The interior of the Neverfull bag has one hanging zip pocket. Pocket sizes vary according to bag size; PM pockets are smaller than GM pockets. This is a factor because of the bag's open top. If you're concerned about security, you may want to make sure your wallet fits inside the zipper pocket before purchasing the bag.
  • The handle drop is approximately 8 inches, and the Neverfull can be carried either on the arm or shoulder.

The Artsy

A favorite among Louis lovers, the Artsy was designed to fit just under the arm. It comes in Monogram and Damier Azur canvas as well as Empreinte leather (seen below), and is currently only available in size MM. Louis Vuitton previously released the Artsy in a GM size, but it has since been discontinued.

Here's what you need to know about the LV Artsy:

  • It has an open top with no clasp, but when worn on the shoulder the opening is just under the arm making it relatively difficult for someone to reach in.
  • It comes with a detachable tethered ring and lobster claw clasp, so that you don't have to dig around for your keys.
  • The interior has six patch pockets and one zipper pocket, so there are plenty of places to store frequently used items that need to be easily accessed.
  • The handle drop is about 4 inches when the bag is sitting flat, but the drop increases to around 7 inches when the bag is picked up. The Artsy can be carried in the hand, on the arm, or on the shoulder.

The Totally

The LV Totally is a popular style for many of the same reasons as the Neverfull. It's currently available in Monogram (seen below), Damier Ebene, and Damier Azur canvas in sizes PM and MM. Louis Vuitton previously released the Totally in a GM size, but it has since been discontinued.

Here's what you need to know about the LV Totally:

  • A top zipper makes the bag easy to keep closed, which is good if you have concerns about keeping bag contents private and/or secure.
  • Open side pockets are great for quickly storing frequently used items like phone and keys.
  • Two to three interior flat pockets (depending on the bag's age) provide extra places to securely store frequently used items.
  • The handle drop is between approximately 9 to 10 inches, and the Totally can be carried either on the arm or shoulder.

The Delightful

Like the Artsy, the Delightful is a favorite among Louis lovers. It was designed to fit just under the arm. It is currently available in Monogram (seen below), Damier Ebene, and Damier Azur canvas, and is available in sizes PM and MM. Louis Vuitton previously released the Delightful in a GM size, but it has since been discontinued.

Here's what you need to know about the LV Delightful:

  • It has an open top with no clasp, but when worn on the shoulder the opening is just under the arm, making it relatively difficult for someone to reach in.
  • It comes with a detachable tethered ring and lobster claw clasp, so that you don't have to dig around for your keys.
  • The interior has one zipper pocket, which limits built-in storage options.
  • Delightful GM bags have two exterior zipper pockets.
  • The handle drop is about 5 inches when the bag is sitting flat, but the drop increases to around 7 or 8 inches when the bag is picked up. The Delightful can be carried in the hand, on the arm, or on the shoulder.
